HOW TO GO

Hakodate super far away from Sapporo even my Japanese friend who live in Sapporo said she never been to Hakodate HAHAHAHA KIDDING. You can take JRtrain for 3 hours ride ( around ¥8000) I could be broke HAHA so I choose night bus because with night bus, you can save your money for 1 night accommodation + transportation in same time so I booked it from Japan bus online for ¥4500 / oneway. So we departed from Sapporo station at 11.35pm and arrived in Hakodate station next morning around 5am. I know it QUITE LONG JOURNEY, but the bus just 3 rows seat so the seat is quite big and can be recline around 120’ and take the bus same bus at night back to Sapporo.

HOW TO EXPLORE IT

Actually  I just explored everything by foot, every places are walkable BUT if you want to explore more you can take bus or tram. If just once or twice just pay directly inside bus/tram around ¥200-250/ride, but if you visit lots of places, you can buy one day pass in Hakodate station tourist information center. #1 MORNING MARKET

9-19 若松町 Hakodate, Hokkaido 040-0063, Japan

OPEN HOUR 5AM - NOON

If in Korea, even Seoul is the capital city, but Busan is the one that famous as biggest seafood producer same here in Hokkaido, Sapporo the capital city and Hakodate is like Busan, the main producer of Sea products. So here in Morning market, you can enjoy buy live seafood and choose directly even it will be grilled or steamed. Me and my friend found quite cheap kingcrab compared to other stalls ( around ¥15000 for 3.7kg, is it expensive?? I don’t know but for 4 of us it was quite cheap) and the owner recommended us that the best way to eat kingcrab is by grilling the claws and steamed the main shell. We believed in him since we all not a kitchen girls HAHA and it turned super delicious and kingcrab meat was super succulent and fresh, he even gave us big grilled clam as service hihi thanks ! and in his stall, he also sell some dried octopus and scallop snack, we bought some for take back home ( price range around ¥1000-2000). Done with our breakfast, we bought some Cantaloupe for dessert (¥500/slice) and special for me, I bought Cantaloupe juice TOO GOOODDDDDDD T.T WANTTTT MORE!! Haha oh! And also here Morning market, famous with its “KAISENDON” yokocho or Raw seafood bowl ( around ¥600-1500) but we are not a big fan of raw sashimi so we skipped that.

#2 HAKODATE BEER MUSEUM

OPEN HOUR 11AM~2.30PM // 5PM~11.30PM

On the way from Morning market to Red brick houses area, we passed by it. Because we arrived around 8, it still closed but the building is too pretty so we decided to take some photos before we go. I thought it is not really a museum but more into Family restaurant where you can enjoy Hakodate beer with some side dishes.

#3 KANEMORI RED BRICK HOUSES

OPEN HOUR 9.30AM~7PM

Main tourist object in Hakodate. Beautiful Red brick warehouses that turned into Shopping tourism area with keeping the old building. Beside it, you can enjoy Hakodate port view, and when I went there, I didn’t know what event it is but they held fireworks.

#4 HACHIMAN ZAKA SLOPE

Japan, 〒040-0053 Hokkaido, Hakodate, 末広町

Most instagramable spot in Hakodate. It’s just a slope with trees on the side but when you go lil bit to the hill and take photo from up, all scenery just super beautiful but becareful with cars around! Actually there are 19 slopes around Hakodate but this the most beautiful one.

#5 HAKODATE ROPE WAY

So just take a walk from Redbrick area, you can find Ropeway station around anad Hakodate rope way super famous with beautiful Hakodate 360’ view BUT TOO BAD UNLUCKY US just saw all fog! L We bought ropeway pass for ¥1200 roundtrip and got nothing L Brb take picture from google LOL HAHA

MUST EAT

LUCKY PIERROT BURGER

OPEN HOUR 10AM~12.30AM

Local hakodate burger chain that you can’t find outside Hakodate ( that I believed) HAHA its famous with Chinese style fried chicken burger. Don’t know why but this chicken tasted super special. It sweet and savory goodness! You can order it chicken itself, inside burger, with curry, and omurice. Suprisingly, the portion is quite generous so you can share together it with your friends.

Price range ¥400~1000

All places that I’ve been are located in same area because I just too lazy to explore other part of Hakodate, but if you want to see more, you can visit

GORYOKUKO PARK AND YUNOKAWA ONSEN AREA that famous with onsen monkey!!
